So this tutorial on how I grow tomato plants from seeds is for those of you that want to do that on your own and enjoy the fruits of your work (in that case it will be tomatoes -vegetable). It will amaze you how easy it is to grow tomatoes plants (or every other vegetable plant from seeds)! You can buy on ebay or amazon (or the local nursery) a pack of tomatoes seeds and off you go, lets plant our tomatoes! Not so fasr, there are some steps you’ll have to keep in order to make them look and grow good, so lets get going !

What you’ll need:

1. A pack of tomatoes seeds (about 3$ almost everywhere).
2. Planting glasses – I use in this tutorial small disposable cups (a set of 50 wine tasting cups will be another 2$).
3. Some planting soil. That will be better than noramal soil, as it lets the new roots to grow easily.

Preparations and plating:

1. Fill the disposable cups with some soil.
2. Water the cup and the soil in it until it is soken wet (about 3/4 the size of your planting cup).
3. Dig a small hole in the soil, about 1 cm deep.
4. Put in two seeds, that will grow your growing tomato seeds success rate.

General care:

1. Until the the seeds don’t come out, you can keep the planting cups in the shadow or in a place with no direct sun (you can even store your tomato plants in house).
2. The water in the cup will be enough for about 4-6 days if you use planting soil.
3. If you see the soil in one of the planting cups gets to dry,gently add some water to the cup.
4. After about 6-10 days you’ll start to see your little tomato plants go out and start to grow (if its your first time, you are going to get very exited!!!).
5. Keep leting your young tomato plants more water.
6. Try to water them with a hand sprinkler – that will harm them the less, but a funnel will to the work too.
7. Keep reading for what to do next after three weeks, when your tomatoes plants from seeds get about 7-10 cm high.

What next?

1. Now its time for the big decisions.
2. You can plant them in your garden.
3. You can (that will be better) plant them in a bigger planting cup. That will make them stronger and when you’ll plant them in your garden, they will have much better and developed roots system.

Some numbers:

It will take you about a month to have tomato plants ready to use from seeds.

You need 6-8 tomato plants to have a fresh tomato every day!

About 1/2 litter of water a day per tomato plant when it is still small.

A big tomato plant will take a bout 1 litter of water per day , musher cheaper than buying them at the local market.

If you’ll hold the tomato wine in your hand you’ll get a fresh smell, you have to try it!!!

All you’ll need for this project are those handy ingredients:

1. A plastic bottle. Any type of bottle will do, I even think about doing it using a milk carton.
2. A piece of wire. Here I used a piece of wire to be the container holder, but you can actually use any type of plastic string that you think will hold the container.
3. A tomatoes plant. You could read more about tomatoes plants the east way at my post about growing tomatoes plants from seeds.

Now let’s go and do it!

Preparing the bottle to become a tomato plat container:

1. Cut the bottom of the bottle with a sharp knife. Try to cut a thin piece of the bottle as you can, so you’ll still have a big size tomato container, so don’t cut the bottle in its middle, but cut it at its end. Keep in mind that the more bottle you have- the bigger tomato container you have, the bigger the tomato plant will get, as you leave a lot of space for its roots to develop.
2. Drill holes in the bottom side of the bottle (the small piece that you’ve just cut of the bottle) and drill two holes at the bottom part of your tomato container, where you’ll put the hanging wire/string. You can use a good nail for that propose, I used a hot nail to drill those holes (just be careful!!!).

Putting the tomato plant in the container:

1. Hold the container carefully while its small hole if face down.
2. Put the tomato plant into the bottle and carefully let the tomato plat stem to  get out of the bottle’s small side.
3. Hold the container upside-down and fill your tomato container with good soil mix (you can buy it in some stores).The better soil you put in your now tomato upside-down container the better chance your tomato plant will grow into a big fruity tomato bush.

Closing you upside-down tomato container:

1. While still holding your container upside down (his natural way from now on), put the small bottle cap you cut off before into the bottle.
2. If it doesn’t fits well cut a small cleft of one of the cap’s sides to “help” it fit in.
3. Put the bottom cap in and close it firmly.
4. Attach the wire handle to your upside- down tomato container and here you go, you have a great upside-down tomato container!!!

המילה ייחור לא נשמעת טוב, במקרה הטוב היא נשמעת כמו מחלה או איזו נכות, אבל ייחור היא למעשה השיטה שבעזרת אפשר ל”הרבות” צמחים.

ייחור נקרא לרוב הענף אותו אנחנו מנסים ל”שכפל”. בייחור משתשים לעיתים קרובות כשמנסים לשכפל עצי (עצי הדר ובעצם את כולם).

בחלק מהמקרים בהם משכפלים עצי פרי, לוקחים איזה גזע של עץ טוב, למה? בייחור והרכבה לוקחים ענף (בדרך כלל של עצי פרי) של עץ טוב, כלומר

עץ שכבר עבר את כל הניסויים הגנטיים והוחלט ע”פ רוב שטעם וטיב הפירות שלו סבבה, אז מה עושים כדי לשמור את העץ הטוב והטעים הזה, בלי להסתכן בהכחדתו ע”י נסיונות זריעה חס ושלום?

לוקחים את הענף הטוב הזה ומרכיבים אותו על בסיס (גזע) של עץ שאנחנו יודעים שעבר ניסויים גנטיים והוא יכול להשריש כל דבר שזז ובעם לשרוד, והרי זה מה שחשוב, שהטובים והטעימים ישרדו והחלשים והפחות טעימים ילכו לעזעזל…

לא אישית עוד לא יצא לעשות הרכבה, אממה, דווקא יצא לי לעשות ייחורים, כלומר לקחת את הענף הטוב הזה ולהשריש אותו ישר באדמה במקום להרכיב אותו על גזע בריא וטוב.

אז מה השלבים שצריכים כדי לעשות ייחור טוב?

1. קודם כל להתחיל בניסויים על צמחים שמוגדרים בעלי קצב צימוח מהיר. קצב צימוח מהיר זה אומר שהצמח שלכם ירצה להמשיך לחיות טוב גם אחרי שהוא הופרד (פרשנות שלי, אפשר להתווכח על זה).צימוח מהיר אומר שהצמח יכול לחיות גם בתנאים לא הכי טובים (שוב פרשנות שלי), כי בתנאים פחות טובים הוא יצמח, אבל לאט יותר…
2. מומלץ להשקות את הצמח ממנו אתם לוקחים ענף, השקייה בריאה וטובה יום יומיים לפני, כדי שהענף הנכרת יספיק לקבל את הארוחה האחרונה שלו בבית אמא לפני הייחור.
3. חתכו את הענף עם סכין חדה (יש סכין של מייחרים, אני בטוח שיש לכם בבית…) אם אין סכין יעודית, קחו מזמרה ועשו תחך אלכסוני מהיר.
4. אל תשתהו יותר מידי, תכינו מראש את הכלי בו תשתלו את הייחור, בכלי תהיה אדמה (תערובת שתילה הכי כדאי) לחה כבר ומוכנה בזרועות פתוחות לקבלת הייחור.
5. שימו את הייחור בתוך הכלי ועטפו אותו בבקבוק חתוך כדי לשמור על לחות הענף.
6. שמרו על אדמה לחה , שהו תנאי הכרחי להצלחת הייחור.אני תמיד בודק את הכלי, אם אני רואה שיש בו לחות אז המצב בסדר, אם אין עליו טיפות זה אומר שצריך להטיב את הייחור קצת.
7. לא צריך להוציא את הבקבוק כל פעם, מספיק להזליף כמה טיפות מים דרך פתח הבקבוק.

איזה ענף מתאים לייחור?

• לא צריך ענף גדול מידי, קחו ענף באורך 15-20 ס”מ.
• לא ענף דק מידי (לא איזה קיסם) ענף בעובי עיפרון אמור לעשות אתהעבודה.
• כלל אצבע שקראתי פעם – קחו ענף שיש ממנו לפחות 4 יציאות של ענפים דקים וחדשים. חיתכו שניים מהענפים הללו שבחלק התחתון של הענף, אותם יש לשים מתחת לאדמה (הם עוזרים מאוד לצמח להקלט באדמה).
• אין צורך בעלים או פרחים, הם גם ככה יבלו תרוך 24 שעות בדרך כלל.

זהו זה.

ואתם בטח שואלים את עצמכם לאן נעלם קרטון החלב?

קרטון החלב הוא אחלה כלי לייחור, הוא עמוק וייתן לשורשים החדשים מספיק מרחב לתמרון, כל לעשות חור בתחתיתו לניקוז המים, ואנחנו לא מלכלכים אתכדור הארץ יותר מידי עם הניסויים שלנו עם הייחורים.

יש לכם רעיונות, אתם מוזמנים לשתף אותנו, הגיבו ושתפו את חבריכם!

בין היתר בגינת הירק האורגנית שלי, שתלנו אפונת גינה ירוקה. אתמול לקחתי כמה תמונות מהגינה שלי וראיתי את האפונות, אמנם קטנטנות ומבצבצות להאדמה הלחה, אבל עדיין לא משהו לספר עליו הביתה ,אני לא אשכח את הפעם הראשונה שגיליתי שיש לי מלפפון אמיתי בגינה, את זה רצתי וסיפרתי לכולם. אבל כן במקרה הזה פחות התרגשתי וכן ף משהו יצא מהגינה מהאדמה, הבוקר הלכתי להשקות את הגינה כחלק משיגרת הבוקר שלי לפני שאני יוצא עם הכלבה המהממת שלנו (אלבה) לטיול ואני רואה שחל שינוי גדול ומלהיב בשתילי האופנה שלנו, אז תראו את ההבדל בעצכם וקחו בחשבון שיש כאן הבדל של איזה 24 שעות בלבד ולא יותר. אני ממש לא יודע למה לצפות נניח מחר בבוקר או בעוד שבוע או עשרה ימים. הגינה האורגנית שלנו מקבלת פנם חדשות ממש בכל יום בהיר, מדהים!

אז איך מקבלים תפוחי אדמה בחינם? מכירים את הקטע הזה שיש לכם בבית תפוחי אדמה שלא השתמשתם מייד אחרי הקנייה והם יושבים אצלכם במגירות הירקות איזה שבוע שניים ואז אתם מחליטים לעשות איזה פירה ופתאום אתם מגלים שתפואי האדמה שלכם מתחילים להצמיח פרחים, או ניצנים לא ברורים. הרי גם ככה אתם מקלפים את תפוחי האדמה וזורקים את הפרחים ה”מגעילים” האלה לפח. בפעם הבאה שאתם מגלים פרחים כאלה, לא לזרוק אותם כי אלה הם תפוחי האדמה של הארוחה הבאה!!! כן תורידו אותם מהתפוחביחד עם חתיכה קטנה מהתפוח האב, לכו לגינה, הרטיבו קצת את האדמה וחפרו גומה קטנה בעומק סנטימטר שניים ושימו בפנים את הניצן הזה. כמו בכל דבר, עד שהוא פורח נסו לשמור כמה שיותר על אדמה לחה, ככה כמה “טיפות” כל בוקר לפני העבודה. אחרי כשבוע תתחילו לראות את הניצן הזה פורץ החוצה תמשיכו לתת לו מים מדי פעם. תפוחי אדמה כמו ירקות השורש האחרים לא מתים כל כך מהר, אבל לא להזניח אף אחד.

נ.ב.

בחורף הכי קל לגדל ירקות שורש, זה פשוט “לזרוק” באדמה ולתת לגשם לעשות את שלו. כמובן שצריך לדאוג עד להנבטה ולראות שהם לא נובלים כל כך מהר.

בתאבון.

יש לפעמים צמחים או ירקות שאני שואל את עצמי איפה לכל הרוחות מתחבאים הזרעים שלהם? חשבתם על זה פעם? איפה הזרעים של בטטה? זרעים של סלק? איפה הם מסתתרים?

אז יש לשאלה הזו תשובה: אנחנו מקבלים/קונים את ירקות השורש האלה כפי שאתם שומעים, שורש! לא תמיד חושבים על זה, אבל אנחנו מקבלים את מה שנמצא מתחת לאדמה ולא את מה שצומח מעל לאדמה.

זה קרה לי בפעם הראשונה, שהבנתי את הנקודה הזו אחרי ששתלתי כמה זרעי צנון בגינה, פתאום אני קולט שיוצא מהאדמה גבעול ארוך, ממש ארוך (הגיע אפילו לגובה של מטר)ועליו פרחים. נו מכאן אני מניח שאתם כבר מבינים לאן אני חותר, ליקרות השורש יש גבעולים ופרחים ומתוכם יוצאים הזרעים, אותם הזרעים שאתם קונים בחנויות ובמשתלות ואיתם אתם מתחילים את גינות הירק שלכם.

אז במקרה של הצנון , יש לו מאין תרמילון קטנטן ובתוכו מתחבאים הזרעים. פשוט מאוד.

עדיין לא בדקתי את זה, אבל אני די בטוח שזה המצב בכל סוגי ירקות השורש האחרים. נסו את זה בבית, קנו חבילת זרעים, נניח צנון, שגם הוא מתחיל להיות מאוד יקר בזמן האחרון, גדלו ותיווכחו בעצמכם.

הירקות ופירות שלכם היום מטופלים בשיטות מתקדמות יותר של הדברה וריסוסים וכל זאת כדי להגביר ולגדיל את היבולים. פעם חשבתם איך זה שיש לכם בסופר עגבניות כל השנה? הרי העגבניות גדולות רק בקיץ, לא? אז זהו שהן גדלות גם בחורף מסתבר, נותנים קצת מעקבי גדילה , חוסכים קצת בחשיפה לשמש והופ יש לכם עגבניות עגולות ואדומות גם בפברואר. כמובן שזה כיף לאכול סלט טרי כל השנה ולא תמיד התהליך הוא הרסני לטעם העגבנייה, אבל זו רק דוגמא קטנטנה על ההתערבות בתהליכי הגידול של הפירות וירקות שאתם מכניסים הביתה לצחלת שלכם כל יום ( אני מקווה שאתם אוכלים ירקות ופירות כל יום).

לכן אני אומר, מה שאפשר לגדל בגינה שלכם, תעשו את זה, אתם לא צריכים יותר ממשפך במקרה הרע ואחרי הנטיעה והשתילה כל מה שתצטרכו לעשות הוא להשקות פעם ביום יומיים וזהו.

לא תאמינו לי אבל אני אוכל כל ערב סלט עם עגבניות טריות וכל זה מערוגה אחת ובה  8 שתילים שהפכו  כבר לשיחים יפים.

אז קדימה , אתם יכולים לעשות את בעצמכם, קראו ותתחילו

אחרי שלושה שבועות יש כבר עלים יפים וגדולים, השתילים כבר בגובה של כ5 ס”מ, נמשיך לעדכן אתכם ב”התפתחויות”.

My name is Mark Samuel and I have a very interesting story to tell,its a bout how I started to grow tomatoes.It all started as a fun after noon activity with my 2 year little boy Eitan.We decided that it will be fun to know how the vegetables and fruits we eat are growing and the phases of their life until they come into our plate.As Eitan really loves pasta food we started with some herbs like Basil ans Oregano and continued with Melons and even started growing Cucumbers.Until this point it was really easy just put the seeds in the soil water it and after some time you’ll get fresh and great tasting vegetables and fruits.But the problems started as we went on for the tomatoes.As with the other fruits and vegetables,I got into the net read that you could dry a tomato wipe it in 1/4 inch deep,water it and you’ll get the tomatoes you always wanted. Well it was very disappointed to wait about 3-4 weeks before we gave up with out first try in growing tomatoes.After this try I started really to read all the info in the web about growing tomatoes,but this wasn’t enough none of the web tutorials available for free weren’t good  and complete. So I gathered all the information that I read about growing tomatoes and although I had the feeling it wasn’t good enough I said I’ll give it a second try.Just before i started a good friend of mine told me that he read a book he bought on the internet that gave him great tomatoes and actually all the tomatoes we have eaten in our gather ups where from his vegetables garden!So I said to myself  why bother and get frustrated again with the tomatoes not growing after a month of trying?

I ordered the E book  (there is a direct link in the bottom of this page) and what can I say it was great.I didn’t had to guess how much water to give?what will be the perfect location?What are the stages in getting those great tomatoes on my tables?I got it all organized for me , follow the instructions and you’ll be happy 100%!

The differences between the first failure attempt  was caused mainly because most sites don’t give you the full picture,they just tip you now and then ,and the success in the second attempt is that I decided to get some professional guidance on how to grow tomatoes.For the last two years I’m getting fresh tomatoes every day!(you should need only 8 bushes for every day big family salad)

What can you benefit from a great vegetable garden heaven in you backyard?

The vegetables region in your garden will be the highlight of your backyard.
